5 minutes walk from between the rocks and the sea

Sgeirea (Skerray) Gaelic meaning: ‘Between the Rocks and the Sea’….

Welcome to our home in Skerray, a remote crofting hamlet on the stunning north coast of Scotland and just a few miles from the North  coats 500 route. Whether you are looking for bed and breakfast accommodation, a holiday let, an ecotherapy journey,  great catering or delicious homemade cake, you have come to the right place.

Between the Rocks and the Sea offers wonderful rural croft house accommodation on the North Coast of Scotland, the perfect place to for a holiday and to rest and relax if you are doing the North Coast 500, or a tour of the area . The cottage is approximately 200 years old and full of character. There are two double bedrooms, a separate dining room and a cosy lounge to relax in with a multifuel stove. There is a wonderful private garden area with an old byre (barn) and fresh water well from the hills (a very exciting find!). Legend has it that the water well here never runs dry.

Owned by the same family for over 125 years (the previous owner, Johani, lived here for 96 years), we purchased it in July 2015 and have been delighted to meet many members of the family (some of whom were born here) and renovate the house in sympathy with its past, uncovering newspapers dating as far back as 1926, old penny coins from 1913 hidden in the earth of the floor (before we insulated it!) and even an old school satchel.

An old Scottish croft house that was, at one time, the local doctors surgery, bank and post office (the original name of the house is ‘The Old Post Office’) and the hub of the community, Between the Rocks and the Sea has been very well loved and is full of happy memories. We hope that you will feel this when you come to stay in our accommodation, whether as a bed and breakfast guest or holiday rental guest. Please note that holiday rental guests have exclusive use of the accommodation during their stay.

You are very welcome to enjoy the garden as well as the house, you may even spot some of the local wildlife as we occasionally get pine martens and deer in the garden, and it is a haven for birds. There are footpaths nearby to get to the cliffs and the hills, and the beach and the harbour are a very easy walk away! Just 5 minutes from the fabulous Torrisdale beach and surrounded by countryside views, Between the Rocks and the Sea is a great base for exploring and unwinding on the north coast of Scotland.

In sympathy with the wildlife, we do not welcome any pets in our accommodation (whether bed and breakfast or holiday rental) and do not allow smoking in the building or garden. We are very family friendly, but please be aware that we do not have stair gates. There is parking in front of the house and bikes and outdoor gear (kayaks, surfboards etc) can be stored in the barn.
